- Describe the outcome you want, not the prompt you think you need. Working out the prompt is its job.
- Say who the output is for and what happens to it next. A prompt written for a client email is a different prompt from one written for an internal note.
- Include the things it must never do. Constraints are what separate a prompt that works twice from one that works every time.
- Test the prompt it gives you, then bring back what went wrong. The second pass is usually the one you keep.
