- Answer for one offer, not the whole business. If you sell three things, map the one that pays the bills and do the others after.
- Describe how it works today, not how it should work. The gap between those two is the useful part, and you will not see it if you map the tidy version.
- Use your own words for each stage. If your team says "site check", do not let it become "preliminary assessment" or nobody will recognise their own flow.
- Seven to twelve stages is right. If you end up with thirty you are describing tasks, not the flow. Group them back up.
